June Snowfall in West Yellowstone

Having lived in Colorado for 13 years, we have seen snow fall in Estes Park in July, but it is still neat to see it fall anytime from June on.

Here is the view out our front window of the brief snowfall we had today here in West Yellowstone.

Buffalo Roam of West Yellowstone

Today was the last day all of West Yellowstone's Buffalo Roam's Painted Buffaloes were all displayed in one place. Tomorrow they get dispersed throughout town.

Then on August 29th, they will each be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Take a look at a few of the Painted Buffaloes.


Camping from the 1800's to the 2000's is illustrated on this buffalo.

Wolves are just one form of wildlife featured on the buffaloes.

Journey to Yellowstone's Northeast Entrance

Today we headed toward Cooke City, Montana...a VERY small town outside the northeast entrance of Yellowstone National Park.

On our way from the west entrance, snow still lined the Park's roads.

Mountainsides still had plenty of snow on them.

Tower Falls plunged to the floor of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.

Whitewater rafting anyone?

We spotted a family eating lunch while driving up Dunraven Pass.

We took a look up the creek. Or was it a river?

These a just a few of the MANY buffalo we spotted in Lamar Valley.

Before exiting the Park's northeast entrance, we entered Wyoming and the Shoshone National Forest.

On the way to Cooke City expect some delays due to road construction. We also suggest avoiding this area during rain.

On the way back into the park, we passed very close by this moose.

Back in West Yellowstone, we decided to try out some Beartooth Barbecue. Um..Um..Good.

Biking Near West Yellowstone

Today, Memorial Day, we rode our bikes starting near West Yellowstone's old airport on Old Airport Road.

Old Airport Road connects to National Forest Service Route 478 which serves as a snowmobile trail in the winter.

Marlon made sure we wore our helmets for safety.

There were a lot of mud puddles and, later in the ride, snow banks to avoid.

Here is Doug, as always, bringing up the rear.

Chatfield visited Pedra on her chair all on his own.

Tour of Yellowstone Lower Loop

Today we took a guided tour of Yellowstone's Lower Loop on a gray SeeYellowstone.com bus with our tour guide, Amy. Here's our bus.

The Sapphire Pool, located in the Biscuit Basin, did not become a geyser until the 1959 earthquake. By 1968, the pool had doubled in size due to the powerful eruptions but was no longer a true geyser. Sapphire still boils violently and has an occasional surge.

Accompanying us today on our tour were co-workers Sharon, Jordan and Lauren.

While eating our lunch on the deck of the Old Faithful Inn, we watched Old Faithful's eruption.

More views of Yellowstone National Park...

Snow banks were still to be found sporadically around the park.

The bet was that this water was very cold.

Lake Yellowstone...what a view!

Lake Yellowstone Hotel was preparing to open for its season Memorial Day weekend.

Get a whiff of sulphur at the Mud Volcano Area.

Just one of the beautiful canyons of Yellowstone...
