New York City Day 4

On our final day in New York City, we continued our search for interesting things.

As we entered the PATH station, this escalator was kind of interesting.

We found the Wall Street Bull on Wall Street...wonder where the Bear is?

Marlon got a different, more interesting perspective on the Bull.

"The Sphere" is a sculpture which stood in the plaza of the World Trade Center for three decades before being damaged on 9/11. It still endures as an icon of hope and the indestructible spirit of this country.

The Brooklyn Bridge is not open to commercial traffic, thus the Manhattan Bridge is often used when sightseeing from Manhattan to Brooklyn.
Manhattan from the Manhattan Bridge.
The Manhattan Bridge is a multi-level bridge with the subway running on one level.
Yet another allusion to Walt Disney World can be found right here on this building. The Dumbo mentioned here, however, refers to a New York City information website...dumbo.newyork.com.
When riding on top of a double-decker bus, always watch out for low tree branches...even in New York City!
The Civil War Memorial Arch, also known as the Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial Monument, was the winner of an architectural contest at the end of the 19th century. The Monument can be found in Brooklyn.
We passed the type of grocery often seen in movies and on television with the fresh fruit outside.
Movie watchers may remember this restaurant as a setting used in the movie The Devil Wears Prada.
Good or bad, the last day of Bush's presidency will soon be upon us.
Lawn Jockeys adorn the exterior of the infamous prohibition-era speakeasy, The 21 Club.
Marlon gets ready to say "Goodbye, Big Apple".

New York City Day 3

Today we continued our self-guided tour of the city using our double-decker bus ticket.

One of the stops on the PATH from Hoboken to Manhattan is at the World Trade Center. This is a view of the construction site from the PATH station.

The new buildings on this site will NOT be as tall as the buildings destroyed on September 11, 2001.

This sign told us the story of the World Trade Center cross we had seen previously.

Nearby, this curiosity can be found. We haven't been able to determine what it is exactly.

The double-decker bus was proceeding along the route too slow for us to reach our scheduled tour at NBC Studios. So we took our first and only cab ride in New York City. Unfortunately, we didn't flag down The Cash Cab.

We made it in time to choose the $1,000,000 Deal or No Deal suitcase...#3!
Apparently, Deal or No Deal has a height restriction of 4 feet for its models.

Our tour of NBC Studios began at the top of these stairs.
Across the street from Rockefeller Center, you can view The Today Show's studio.

Another look at some of the natural beauty of Central Park...

Back on the double-decker bus, we passed the home of Late Show with David Letterman.

Manhattan is home to many great photo opportunities showing building perspective.

We also passed by the AOL-Time Warner building.
We got a better look at the scene of John Lennon's murder.
Yet another example of the great architecture of Manhattan...
Next, our tour ventured into Harlem USA as we passed the famous Apollo Theater.

Street performers surround Central Park much like we have seen in Key West, New Orleans and Honolulu.
It was Day 3 and Times Square was still lit up.
Disney's The Lion King is celebrating its 10th year on Broadway.

Did you know that since the 1800's all buildings built over six stories tall in Manhattan have been required to have their own water towers? This helps alleviate water pressure problems in the city.
Our Day 3 video can be viewed for your pleasure below.

New York City Day 2 Part 2

Continuing our double-decker tour, we passed by the United Nations Building. The flags are lowered at 4pm weekdays and do not fly on weekends.
New York City in perspective from the top of the double-decker bus.
Visitors to Central Park can "go green"by riding in a bicycle taxi known as a pedicab.
Then we drove by Carnegie Hall.
These signs show a sampling of the current shows on Broadway and advertise the new Get Smart movie.
We walked by MTV Studios in Times Square...could one of those be Britney in the window?
The famous billboards of Times Square.

By following the local news helicopters, we found this SUV had jumped the curb and crashed into a building. No fatalities occurred.
We saw Mickey, Minnie and Pluto on 5th Avenue at the World of Disney store.
We saw a little more Times Square as it began to get dark.
Then our double-decker nighttime tour began. The M&M smiled down on us.
A street fair was going on this weekend.
The nighttime tour gave us a chance to see the city lights from different perspectives.
In Brooklyn, some kids were playing a game of b-ball.
The city just before we retired for the night...
Watch the video below for some of today's highlights.
